About CleanPlate

Independent ratings for Indian packaged foods, built from the label and one published method.

What CleanPlate does

CleanPlate reads the label of packaged foods sold in India and scores each one on three things: how much real nutrition it carries, how processed its ingredients are, and how heavy it is in sugar, salt and saturated fat. Every ingredient and additive on the list is decoded in plain language, and every claim on the pack is checked against the ingredient list.

How a score is made

One fixed method, applied the same way to every product, using FSSAI, Codex and ICMR-NIN reference values. The method is versioned and each change is on the changelog. Our scoring philosophy explains why it is built the way it is, and sources and images says where label data comes from.

Independence

No brand pays for a score, a review or a placement. There is no advertising from food brands and no affiliate links, so we earn nothing when you buy a product we rated. Read the full editorial independence policy.

When we get something wrong

Labels change and we can misread them. Every correction is published on the corrections log, and anyone can send evidence through the dispute form.
